An exhibit of Jim Grafsgaard's large-scale Geo-Expressionist oil paintings opens April 15th at the Larson Gallery, University of Minnesota, St. Paul campus. The show will run thru early August.

Our popular video animation ANIMA (widescreen version with new soundtrack) is featured on Twin Cities Public Television's series MNTV - showcasing outstanding Minnesota independent film and video of the year.
Walker Art Center
will be streaming the MNTV series in their hallway Film/Video Bay thru August.

AUTUMN - WINTER 2009

    Jim Grafsgaard is in southern Mexico on a 6-month residency traveling in Yucatan, Chiapas, Quintana Roo and elsewhere! He will be back sometime before the end of winter...and while away will be working on several new video animations and new paintings!





SUMMER 2009

    TORTUGA! (4-piece jazz electra combo - with original music by P.J. Tracy - keyboards,
  Cory Jesok - guitar, Aaron Bigger - drums, Luis Fuentes - bass.) debuted their original music
at our July 25th BrightBlueEarth Open Studio. The intimate space was filled with attentive listeners who responded enthusiastically to the emotional, imaginative and flawless performance. TORTUGA!

SPRING 2009

    
OAXACA - graphic art from Mexico at ArTrujillo Gallery 349 13th Ave NE, in Minneapolis - May-June, 2009, included photos of Oaxaca by JIM GRAFSGAARD.



  JIM has RETURNED FROM MEXICO, and his winter studio sojourn (December 08 - May 09). His trip included creative time and explorations of the Mayan culture and the Yucatan peninsula.
Jim also participated in the the Telchac Puerto Mural Project (click for photos), creating a playground mural in the central plaza of the village.


        
The 2009 VISUAL MUSIC MARATHON , including our original BrightBlueEarth animation ANIMA, screened at New York City's SCHOOL OF VISUAL ARTS on April 11, 2009 at the Visual Arts Theater, 333 West 23 Street in Chelsea.
  ANIMA has also been recently shown at the WALKER ART CENTER in Minneapolis, the Minnesota Museum of American Art in St Paul, and Casoria Contemporary Art Museum in Naples, Italy.

        
CREATIVE BLOOD - an exhibit of art created by family members - at Altered Esthetics Gallery in NorthEast Minneapolis, and ran thru March 2009. Featured artwork included MIDAS RAT AND ME - a graphic novel collaboration between James H. (father) and James T. (son) Grafsgaard.





Winter 2008-09

      A WCCO TV Interview of P.J. Tracy, as part of The Good Question feature focusing on the music P.J. has been composing for the station, aired February 16, 2009. The video includes footage of P.J. performing in our BrightBlueEarth Studio in Northeast Minneapolis.

     ULTIMATE LANDSCAPE III , the first exhibit of 2009 at Gallery 13's new location, 811 Lasalle Av in Minneapolis, included several of Jim's GEO-EXPRESSIONIST paintings plus screenings of our BrightBlueEarth videos. The show ran thru January, 2009.

     Art work by Jim Grafsgaard and friends was shown at the Resistencia Festival 2008 at Bedlam Theater (1501 south 6 st, Minneapolis) November 14, 2008. "Resistencia 2008" was produced by the Radio Revolucion crew - listen to them live in studio on Monday nights at midnite or on the archives of KFAI Community Radio.



Autumn 2008

     A Midwest Emmy Award goes to a WCCO NEWS spot with music written and performed by P.J. Tracy!! See the award-winning tv ad and hear P.J.'s terrific vocal / instrumental track on www.pjtracymusic.com.

     Day of the Dead / Dia de los Muertos 2008 at El Colegio Charter School and at Altered Esthetics Gallery in Minneapolis - Jim and friends participated in artistic and traditional celebrations of this important Mexican holiday honoring our loved ones and heroes who have passed on.

     Jim "Gûerejo" Grafsgaard participated in the 24-hour Comic Day on October 18-19, 2008, at MN Center for Book Arts for the 2nd year in a row. You can view his (adult-themed) comic "The True Misadventures of AMERICO JUAN online here @ BrightBlueEarth.

  Saturday October 11, 2008 - Open Studio day at BrightBlueEarth Studio was a great success, with more than 50 friends, family and art lovers joining us for conversation, creativity, and delicious food and drink. Thanks to all!

 P.J. Tracy's NEW website debut - www.pjtracymusic.com features full-length musical compositions and audio samples of P.J.'s incredibly versatile vocal and instrumental talent, including streams of several high-profile videos he recently scored for WCCO-TV and Marquette University.

     P.J. Tracy joined the rest of the Sonic State team for the historic 100th SONIC TALK Podcast presented LIVE on www.sonicstate.com on WEDNESDAY September 24 2008 at 10AM USA Central Standard Time !

    Jim Grafsgaard's article "Planting: A Post-Protest Alternative" is included in the Fall 2008 edition of ARP! Art Review and Preview - the website archives include a wide-range of stimulating cultural reporting and criticism, focused on visual art in general, and Minnesota art specifically.




Summer 2008

     P.J. and Jody Tracy, after celebrating their wedding in May, oversaw the remodeling of our BrightBlueEarth Studio at 1620 Central Av NE, Suite 155 in Minneapolis!

     Jim spent Spring and Summer (March-August 2008) in Mexico painting and collaborating on art projects from his studio in Merida, Yucatan.  

        

Thru Spring 2008

     ANIMA - a Bright Blue Earth Studio video was featured during the February FREE First Saturday at the internationally-renowned Walker Art Center.

  P.J. Tracy attended the Winter NAMM 2008 show in Anaheim CA, January 17-20. The NAMM Show is the largest music products trade show in United States. More than 80,000 NAMM Members and guests attended the January 2007 show. The NAMM Show is not open to the general public.

Other Notable Events

The film ANIMA has been inducted into the permanent collection at the Casoria Contemporary Art Museum in Naples Italy.

December 2007 - January 2008. Jim Grafsgaard participates in the Nuestra Frida art exhibit organized by Grupo Soap del Corazòn in Minneapolis, exploring the legacy of painter Frida Kahlo.

Fall 2007. Jim Grafsgaard´s article History of Latino and Chicano artists in the Twin Cities 1947-2007 is published in Art Review and Preview.

May 2007. BrightBlueEarth organizes Tu Casa es Mi Casa benefit at Gallery 13 in NorthEast Minneapolis, raising over $1000 for the Casa de Cultura of Santiago Tejupan, Oaxaca Mexico

March 2007. BBE videos are shown as part of AV nite at the Centro Cultural in Oaxaca, Mexico, and also are seen earlier in the month at the Traktor Bar's Movie Night in Puerto Escondido.

April 2007. The film ANIMA appears in the Visual Music Marathon. Egan Research Center, 120 Forsyth Street, Boston, MA 02115

February - March, 2007. Jim Grafsgaard designs and helps paint a community mural in Oaxaca Mexico. see video of the project here!
